Creating your own invitation for a special occasion in your life is a good method to add a unique style to somewhat of a celebration. However, if you're about to do something as special when you were a wedding, some taste really should thrown into the blend.
The worst Wedding Invitation I ever received came to me in a reused envelope - you're confident you know the ones people work to send their bills down into but pay online by no means. Inside this utility bill envelope would be a neatly folded a small note book. At first I found it to be a joke.

It lowers in history as most Wedding Invitation that anyone has ever received the next day. The wedding itself may have been fine - I didn't have the nerve going.
