As an experienced wedding photographer in Liverpool and Stansted, I have found ghosting for a major problem that arises uninterruptedly. It is caused when light is reflected from either in terms of how lens barrel or musicians.
When photographing a wedding, it can often occur as strong light sources such as huge windows (Often associated with fantastic Tudor style buildings utilised in weddings), are a favourite pester for photographers wanting to make the most from the surroundings. Liverpool, Merseyside and Manchester are full of venues like this and consequently are regular haunts for me consistent basis daily and weekly locate.
It is often the case that when the camera is pointed in the subject (Let say the bride to be - sitting on a medieval seat just before the window), the prospect of 'Ghosting' will be markedly increased.
Doing little or nothing from this could potentially destroy what would definitely be a fantastic photograph. However, some simple techniques can solve the actual truth...
Firstly, good lenses 'Claim' to reduce the risk of ghosting, although I haven't yet find one that completely stops this. Secondly, using a good UV filter will also help, but again, these can only 'Help reduce' the risk especially often the case get it shooting directly towards will still within slight ghosting. Using packages like photo shop may also be helpful, as spending time darkening the case area will help slow up the negative effect ghosting basically.
The best and simplest way I've noted is to step sideways over the window and angle the camera till no ghosting are visible. Take a photograph, examine it, move further sideways, take another et cetera until no ghosting will arrive.
Many of the images I take are on angles anyway and so if I get off 'Straight on' towards the window, lets say left, angle digital camera to add a funky turn to the image and afterwards on press the shutter, ghosting is minimized fashionable cool looking photograph is very much captured.
When photographing a marriage, one of the important and vital elements is you don't keep the bride ready. Photographers who are standing around for too much time attempting to get the best shot will only cause concern at bride and cause negative feeling your drive. I find as a photographer that its best to be cautious. That is why funky angles are frequent place in several of the best photographs I take. Should you as a photographer Would really like the straight on image before the window, then either know more about lens, filter and are placed editing or simply utilize the angled option, thus helping reduce the time in post impact.
An after thought... Ghosting for all the people desirable effect... Shoot not many straight on and they'll just work. Remember fps are (Meant to be) performing artists, there is no wrong or right way. It is 't maths... This is a guide...
